I had a great weekend..... sewing of course!

from my favourite issue of Burda Style (2/2010) again.



This believe it or not is the stripy top pattern #122.
I find that Burda patterns are very wide across the shoulders and therefore low at front, 
so I extended the pattern pieces by 3cm at the neckline.
I did have to make  small adjustments on the sleeve seams to running up to the neckline as it was too wide.


I now have a very comfortable top that isn't going to fall off my shoulders and show my bra straps.

Even the back neck doesn't gape!





A couple of weeks ago I made this Burda Style (7/2014) top #114


No adjustments were needed with this one.  
I love the pattern on this fabric.


I spend Sunday with my daughter helping her make her dress
She is laughing not crying in this photo!
Hopefully soon I will be able to show you a photo of the finished dress, it is looking really good so far!

Oh dear I am late with the MAGAM challenge AGAIN!!!! This jacket was so hard.  There wasn't a lot in the way of instructions and what there was I didn't understand. So I kind of muddled through it, but got there in the end.  The sleeves were on and off several times, as the easing was so difficult I just couldn't get it flat; so they do have a little bit of gathering that shows. I really didn't enjoy making it at all and am so glad its finally finished. I'm not that pleased with the result but will wear it with my '50s style' dresses. This jacket is being modelled by my new mannequin 'Ella'. She was a gift from my neighbour! and is quite old. I think she is from the 1960's but isn't quite complete as she needs some bits for her stand. As she is made by adjustoform and is the model formella, she is named Ella :)  Now I have to think of what to make for February! It will have to be something fairly

crossover top from Knipmode

This is my first make from my advanced dressmaking course. I bought the material back in 2008 in Leiden, Holland!! It's about time I used it. I have never used an overlocker before so this was the perfect time to try one out. The material is a very soft 4-way stretch and I've been scared to stitch it on my sewing machine. The overlocker was so easy to use, I quite fancy one now!! £££ The seams were overlocked and the hems were stitched on my machine using a twin stretch needle. I hand tacked everything but it was worth the result. I'm very pleased with it and it fits very comfortably. The front is a bit low so I bought a camisole top for modesty!!  Thanks for looking Jolanda x

November's Make a Garment a Month Challenge

Hello, I hope you are all having a good weekend. Well, I have finally made a decision and this is the dress I am going to make. It's from a supplement of extra patterns from the October issue of Knipmode. And this is the very busy fabric I am going to use! I'm not that used to such bright patterns, usually staying safe with plain fabrics.
